Why do we need to put our message out?

A basic human need is to feel that we matter. It only makes sense that we desire to connect with other people. And one effective way to do just that is to put our message out there to as many people as possible.

Going back to why we do things is an adventure on its own. Let us explore three reasons we crave others to know what we want to say. One, we need to be seen. Two, we need to be heard. And last, we want to make a difference in someone’s life somewhere.

We need others to see us. When someone pays attention to us by giving us another look and noticing our existence, it keeps us believing we are not alone, especially when others openly acknowledge more than how we look. When someone notices what is behind our eyes, it allows us to experience how it feels good to matter because someone sees us for who we are. It makes us feel less alone.

We need someone to hear us. To be heard makes us feel we have a voice and that our voice is relevant. And that we matter enough to others for them to listen to what we say and influence their life somehow, wherever they may be. The farther away they are from us, the better it feels when they reach out to us and say we have changed something in their life for the better. We want to be that one voice someone wants to listen to.

We want to make a difference. To make an impact on others makes us feel we exist for a reason. Knowing that someone somewhere believes that we made a difference in their life is priceless. We can never put a price tag on something like that. Imagine someone approaching you and telling you how similar you are and that what you said made sense. Or when someone tells others about you because you saved him from making the biggest mistake of his life simply because you put your message out there.

Think about it. Then write some more.
