Paul J. Krause is a fire officer in two New England fire departments and a graduate of the University of Hartford with a BA in US History and a minor in Gender Studies. Paul is a Marine Corps veteran, having served from June 2005 to June 2009. He was deployed twice with 2D Battalion 2D Marines—once in support of the global war on terrorism with the 26th MEU in 2007 and once to Iraq in 2008.

He was inspired to write “Local Yokels” after reading “The French Revolution” by Matt Stewart in an American Literature class at the university.

In the story “Local Yokels,” Bootknife and the Local Yokels of Uville is an exhilarating, heart-pounding story that showcases the unbreakable bond and unwavering courage of firefighters as they face an unprecedented week of challenges. When a series of structure fires hits the town of Uville, the local fire department finds itself fighting the busiest and most dangerous stretch of fires in its history.

The tight-knit group of firefighters, led by the determined Bootknife, must rely on their collective skills, quick thinking, and deep brotherhood to save lives and protect the community. This story highlights the risks that come with the job, demonstrating the personal sacrifices these brave men and women make every day in the face of life-threatening danger.

As the week intensifies, the firefighters push through exhaustion and danger, battling blazes that seem to come at them relentlessly. However, a catastrophic collapse during a house fire changes everything. Three of the firefighters find themselves trapped, struggling to survive in a situation that could cost them everything.

The sense of brotherhood among the team becomes more crucial than ever, as each member fights not only the fires but also for the lives of their brothers who are now in grave peril. The experience tests their resolve, their trust in one another, and their very will to survive.

This gripping narrative delves deep into the sacrifices and trials faced by those who serve as firefighters, revealing the physical and emotional toll the job takes on these everyday heroes. It’s a poignant reminder of the life-or-death nature of their work and the strength of the bonds that tie them together.

Bootknife and the Local Yokels of Uville is a story of survival, camaraderie, and heroism that will resonate with readers, highlighting the extraordinary bravery of those who rush toward danger to protect others.
